Heat extremes in Western Europe warmed faster than simulated. Our new Nature Communications paper led by @RobertVautard shows that this due to more frequent southerly flows, an observed atmospheric circulation trend, which is larger than in climate models. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Thanks for the invite RMetS Scotland great evening at the local centre meeting after a visit to see Kanzis Mattu and the Edinburgh geosciences crew!

Very cold winters - very unlikely but still possible Hard to imagine in peak summer but winter will be back. And it could still be harsh. In a new paper led by Sebastian Sippel, we show that winters like in 1962/63 are much less likely today but still possible doi.org/10.5194/wcd-5-…

Glad to announce that the last paper of my PhD ECMWF part of CAFE Climate Extremes Project has finally been published. Thanks to Laura Ferranti, Holger Kantz and Florian Pappenberger Have a look if you are interested in predictions of heatwaves into the subseasonal range: doi.org/10.1007/s00382…

Increasing probability of record-shattering precipitation Higher precipitation variability in a warming climate amplifies the probability of record-shattering extreme precipitation as shown in our new study led by Iris de Vries.

Very exciting day as NextGen Energy Climate Community is happening! Over 200 people joining us on zoom for Dr. Julie Kay Lundquist, Ph.D.'s fantastic first keynote! #energymet #NextGenEC2024
