Don't often offer my opinion but as a teacher of 17 years (various positions) I actually agree with those who have said that teaching is mostly incompatible with modern life. I can't get appointments I need, nor the work done on my house, nor go to life events I'm invited to.

This is just a public thank you to everybody who has posted 'An Inspector Calls' resources and materials recently. As a completely new text to me, even though I've been teaching 15+ years, they have been hugely helpful and I've massively benefitted from them.

Never have I been more convinced of the need for a 4 day week or a 3 day wknd. 1 day to be social, 1 day to deal with life (shopping, cleaning etc etc), 1 day to just be (or in many teachers' cases - do some work).

Born for the sunshine, but more for sprawling on a sun lounger next to a pool with a constant stream of cold beverages kind of experience.

All these 5ams send shivers through me. I am a get out of bed at 06:12 and leave the house at roughly 7am. Bedtime is 10pm with a 30 min reading opportunity. I hate 6am wake ups with a passion. It's a struggle every day.

Am I the only one that dreads Y11 time after exams? It's filled with cover and loads of imposed tasks. I'd rather just have another class and teach. The pressure and stress is worse than Sept start.

The discussion in this is fascinating. Time for me is the biggest issue. I miss the era when time was given for CPD. Currently, my brain is frazzled after a long week. My own CPD is focused on getting to know the new texts I teach. Subject specific CPD isn't given enough focus.

KS3 exams, Y10 mocks, departmental review (observations etc), instructional coaching observation, work on KS3 curriculum etc. It just never ends. Very glad I didn't sign up for exam marking this year. Already crawling to summer.

Finished my first book of the summer and need lots of suggestions for the next ones. I've finished The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Loved the descriptions of Alaska. Please send recommendations!

Experiencing absolute holiday jealousy, particularly those who have been on cruises to the likes of the Norwegian Fjords, and those in Swirzerland.

The negative responses blow my mind. There are plenty of schools who make it work & have done for years. If you don't want to take it flexibly - don't! And the majority of teachers do well beyond their contracted hours so no need to find a way to monitor output in this time.

Spent the day in the garden painting fence panels. Absolute bliss! Sunshine, quiet, and relaxing. Love days like these. #summerholidays

A Christmas of marking looms. 2 x Y8 pieces, 1 x Y9, 2x Y10 Lit, 1 x Y10 Lang. Why? Because mock marking doesn't give you any time to mark anything else! I could choose to leave it but knowing what will stack on top of it when I return, makes me feel sick. #teacherlife

Never heard of Mad Friday until I moved to North Manchester! Was a completely alien concept (unless I've been completely oblivious to it) #MadFriday

2nd day of this horrible cold that seems to have struck everybody. Not moved. Not shopped. Not cleaned. Not wrapped. Not bothered. I'll deal with everything when I'm well. Might by-pass Xmas this year.
