Royal Park is a haven of biodiversity nestled in the heart of Melbourne. The Entomological Society of Victoria is concerned about the proposals outlined in the draft of the Royal Park mastertplan which could have a detrimental impact on the local invertebrate fauna.

Check out this Margin-winged Stick Insect (Ctenomorpha marginipennis) observed by one of our members during our end of year excursion to Warrandyte State Park in 2024. Not an insect we commonly see on our various outings around Victoria!

Last night #EntSocVic was with the City of Knox as part of the #CityNatureChallenge. It drizzled rain all night and this moth was out in force with 50-100 observed on the sheet. An amazing spectacle for members of the community who came out to participate in the event. #moths

This amazing fly is from the Genus Trigonospila (family Tachinidae) and was observed by #EntSocVic member Adam Edmonds. These eye catching and strikingly patterned flies are easy to observe with their bold striped patterns on their thorax and abdomen. #diptera #flies
