This is fantastic news and in my opinion points the way forward — governments should be funding *real* open science. The same money would pay for just 1000 open access papers in nature… that’s like a few months’ issues? Insane inefficiencies of a privatised system laid bare

New preprint from QuITters Debarba, Huber, and Friis! Here they show how well quantum systems can 'broadcast' information to their surroundings when the environment is messy and thermal, and how classicality is recovered via coarse-graining in this setup arxiv.org/abs/2403.07660

Physicist Maximilian Lock: Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution for ideal gases arises from a lack of perfect microscopic knowledge. With complete particle information, we could observe deviations from the predicted distribution at specific moments. qspace.fqxi.org/videos/308/max…

When does the indeterminate become determinate? qspace.fqxi.org/videos/308/max… Maximilian Lock asks how one rigorously delineates which parts of an experiment should be modelled unitarily versus projectionally?

Nice summary (in German) of ongoing project "High-Performance integrated Quantum Computing (HPQC)"; we (Phila Rembold, Tomasz Andrzejewski & I) are part of a great consortium at the intersection of QC & HPC; including Ivona Brandic AQT Martin Ringbauer Richard Kueng 👇

Here our latest take on what some of us internally refer to as the 'magic triangle' 🪄🔺️of (this time finite) resources: energy 🔋, time ⏳️, and complexity ⚙️ Thanks to the amazing @tarantophilip, Patryk, Nayeli, Martí Perarnau, Marcus Huber & Pharnam!

Time for a new preprint! QuITter Florian @MathsMire joins a team of many frequent QuIT collaborators (including @QTD_Basel, Gabriel Landi, Nuriya Nurgalieva 🐉, Mark Mitchison) to extend their work on clocks to consider the problem of optimal time estimation arxiv.org/abs/2406.19450

Beautiful new work led by @MathsMire and the QuIT Physics (@quitphysics.info on 🟦☁️) gang, getting to the heart of the question driving the ASPECTS project: what is the thermodynamic cost of precision? It turns out: with the right quantum system, not that much! 🧵⬇️
