Just published my first #climateSolution graphic project for The Washington Post! See how a deep lake naturally cools over 100 buildings. Great collab with Monica Ulmanu and Tik Root Explore the graphic story here: washingtonpost.com/climate-soluti… #SciComm #SciArt #TechnicalDrawing

Toronto is home to the world’s largest lake-powered cooling system. Here’s how it works according to The Washington Post the system already saves 90,000 mega-watt hours of electricity use annually — roughly enough to power a town of 25,000.

The @EnergyEnwave Deep Lake Water Cooling System serves as a model that should be replicated throughout coastal cities across the world.

Got to visit Enwave Energy Corporation’s very cool facility in downtown Toronto. Enwave has created an efficient system to use water from Lake Ontario to offer sustainable cooling for buildings across the city. These are the kinds of practical solutions our government is proud to support.

Steven Guilbeault Enwave Energy Corporation Finally some practical solutions not blowing hot air into an already warm city air from electric A/C !! CO2 is not the enemy! Too many cars are, or excessive heat or true pollutants like CO, SO2, methane, lead, coal dust or diesel soot. Not harmless CO2.

Preserving design legacy of celebrated architect, Peter Dickinson, Richmond Adelaide Centre is redeveloped & designated as a #heritage site. It is served by Enwave's #DeepLakeWaterCooling system, & we congratulate them on their LEED Gold Certification for this building.

Good to see local climate leadership celebrated, but much room for progress, especially in sustainable and equitable plans for growth and density. Toronto Hydro and Enwave Energy Corporation should get a shout-out for the important, but less visible, infrastructure these actions depend on.

Buildings account for 55% of Toronto’s emissions. Decarbonization will be needed to reach our climate goals, but it comes with challenges & costs. On Feb 17, our panel will examine strategic approaches to help guide Ontario to a Net-Zero future. Register: bit.ly/PBSBuildingsTW

Did you know that #LakeOntario helps our Centre stay cool? Our facility was the first in Toronto to be on Enwave Energy’s Deep Lake Water Cooling system. It uses water from Lake Ontario to cool our South Building, reducing GHG emissions & electrical consumption. #EarthMonth
