Birds not crossing the Great Dividing Range (“Extensive Tracking of Nomadic Waterbird Movements Reveals an Inland Flyway” doi.org/10.1002/ece3.7…), this paper may also provide clues as to how the risks of some mosquito-borne pathogens (like MVEV, JEV) aren’t seen on the coast!

Big jump in activity of saltmarsh mosquitoes (Aedes vigilax) around coastal wetlands over recent days. If you’re heading out camping, bushwalking, fishing (or just celebrating NYE), make sure you pack some insect repellent! 🦟

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this site in Hammondville. During the 2019-2020 summer, this site was completely burnt out (many black trunks remain). Back then, we found mosquito eggs survived the fire and hatched shortly after when tides flooded the site!
