With Cormac McCarthy passing, it’s a good time to reread his advice for scientific communications: nature.com/articles/d4158… This is evergreen writing advice.

Great one-liner from Dr. Kyri Baker at #IEW: technologies are not like ducks, they don’t mate for life. We‘ll need different technologies at different places/times. Macro energy systems modeling at its best can show policymakers the optionality value of a diverse technology portfolio.

Thrilled to share our EJ team is growing! The CDR field is growing RAPIDLY & we need more folks thinking about EJ & CDR. So, if the idea of centering communities, working w/ EJ orgs and policymakers, and stepping into unprecedented climate policy excited you…👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

It’s happening! From the publisher of ERL, we’re launching a new society-owned, OA journal (no fees for 2 years) focused on energy — with a specific interest in energy system change for climate and justice. Check it out and send something our way starting Tuesday (the 18th)!

Texans broke a new peak demand record Thursday. The new hourly average record is 81,406 megawatts; 5-minute record is 81,573MW. As the record was set, renewables produced ~30% of the power. Prices were <$200MWh (cap is $5,000). Renewables help consumers. #txlege #txenergy

You might have heard that EVs 'catch fire' more often than petrol cars. But data from Norway – where EV adoption is highest – shows the opposite. EVs were much less likely to catch fire. Data is given per 100,000 cars. h/t Robbie Andrew (his chart below)

Up and down the Atlantic coast, an increasingly vocal & coordinated movement is spreading baseless claims that offshore wind development is killing whales. In some intrepid reporting, Ben Storrow unpacks the truth--and the money--behind these lies: politi.co/44ShP9g

A lot of outlets have been telling the story of Tony Bennett marching with MLK. But have you ever heard the story about how “wokeness,” DEI, Jesus, an actual anti-racist, 2 church choirs & 1 of the greatest dance moves of all time got Tony Bennett into show biz? A thread

Just because Tony Bennett was a diversity hire who got his job through affirmative action… It doesn’t mean he wasn’t qualified.

One interesting result: DICE is the outlier compared to PAGE and FUND when it comes to the role damages play in choosing R&D into nuclear power.
