Thank you Dad… A few things my father did for me when I was younger that I’ll forever be grateful for: • He was my number one fan and coach. • My fondest memories are us at the local school practicing fielding, fly balls, him throwing batting practice and playing pepper.

How many people truly realize their effect in their own child's future when it comes to sports? As Coaches, we have limited time with them. The truly great ones have parents who work with them and and do everything they can to help. Makes all the difference in the world

Thing about it is the BP exit-velocity, infield/outfield velocity & 60 times are fun but sooner or later coaches want to know who can actually play baseball.

One baseball and a throwing partner is the price of increasing velocity. Doesn't require thousands of dollars spent at super duper velocity facilities. Throw on a football field. Work to throw it end zone to end zone. Sounds too basic, I know.

Parents: Keep supporting and encouraging your young ball player. Be there to help them when they want, and ask for, it. But know this, as they get into those teenage years, they will need to steer the ship. They will need to start taking their progress into their own hands. You

Watching all the IG posts of players posting their top pitching speed at PG this weekend. Then looking at stats, they walked more guys than innings pitched and gave up tons of hits and lost the game. What are we doing?

Dear local travel team hitting in front of me. I wonder if you know how ridiculous you look in saggy shorts and hey dudes pretending to take batting practice. You never know who’s watching.

I’d like to put together a master database of college catching coaches. If you coach catchers in college (any level) please comment below with your school’s name. AND, if you’re feeling extra helpful, please share this post so more people see it to help the list grow!

Airport advice at 4am: The D2, D3, NAIA, or JUCO coach that you ignore today might end up at a D1 program — or know someone who already is. Coaches talk. Moral of the story: Don’t “big league” coaches who take time out of their day to reach out to you. Respond.

Greg Maddux faced 20,421 batters over the course of his career. Only 310 (1.5%) saw a 3-0 count. Of those, over half of them (177) were intentional walks.
