Economic incentivisation is leading to a rapid expansion of medical allied professionals, which perversely reduces training opportunities and funding for doctors. At a time when we need more doctors in the workforce, this is paradoxical.

So I’ve thought long and hard about this: When the ballot went out I voted to strike. I’ve been in two minds whether to go through with it, particularly with the disruption it will cause, but I’ve decided to go through with it.

Not sure whether this is something that will get me hung up and lynched, but I think the Royal Colleges, especially mine, need to resist the rapid expansion of medical allied professionals being pushed by the government. It will be detrimental in the long term. A slippery slope.
