In May, FAO provided over USD 1.5 million in cash assistance to support more than 4 400 farming families near the frontline. These funds helped them plant crops, care for livestock, and rebuild rural livelihoods. With the support of 🇦🇹, 🇧🇪, 🇨🇦, 🇫🇮, 🇫🇷 and 🇨🇭.

Last week, Food and Agriculture Organization’s Emergencies Director Rein Paulsen visited a poultry farm in Zaporizhzhia that continues to operate despite destruction caused by the war and frequent power cuts. FAO and GermanForeignOffice provided a generator to help stabilize production and support food security.

In Zaporizhzhia, Rein Paulsen of FAO in Emergencies visited Terra Viktoriia - a frontline farm supported by Food and Agriculture Organization, Посольство Японії в Україні & La France en Ukraine 🇨🇵🇪🇺. The support enabled the farm to keep planting and sustain 200+ families who rely on land rental for their livelihoods.

Today is the Int–day against Illegal Fishing. Around 26M tonnes of fish are caught illegally each year. In 2024, to support legal, sustainable alternatives, FAO assisted 41 aquaculture farmers and 77 families in Ukraine, helping them earn income and stay in their hromadas.

A greenhouse, an irrigation system, and a $300 voucher from FAO are helping Anna’s family grow flowers in Mykolaivska oblast. 🌱 With Norway’s support, we help rural families regain income and stay in their homes. Recovery starts with small steps and considerable support.

Roman, a farmer from Mykolaivska oblast, lost his 160-ha farm in 2022 when his village was destroyed. After returning home, he faced mined fields and no equipment. An FAO voucher helped him buy seeds and fertilizers. Today, he’s step by step back to farming.

🌾 June 19 – Ukrainian Farmer Day Despite the war, shelling and landmines, farmers continue to feed communities and support local economy. Since 2022, FAO has supported over 16 000 Ukrainian farmers with seeds, temporary storage, grants and vouchers.

🌲 On 24–25 June, FAO and partners gathered 80+ experts in Kyiv to review Ukraine’s Forest Code. They discussed legal gaps, outdated terminology, and EU alignment needs. A key step towards sustainable forest governance and EU integration.

🌱 After fleeing Mykolaiv, Iryna and her family started farming from scratch in Petrivka, Odeska oblast. In 2025, FAO and Посольство Німеччини supported them with seeds and a UAH 16 600 voucher to start farming more effective.

🐝 18 beekeepers from Sumska oblast joined a study tour to "Pasika 21" in Cherkasy. With the support of the Ukrainian Community Recovery Fund and FAO, they explored industrial beekeeping and large-scale honey production, bringing back insights to strengthen war-affected regions

💰 In June, FAO provided $794 800 in cash assistance to 1 987 families in frontline areas of Ukraine, helping restore agriculture. Thanks to Austria in Ukraine, Development Canada, Посольство Німеччини & FinlandinUkraine, they can buy seeds, fuel & tools to restart farming and feed their communities.

🍇 The "Sribna Dolyna" Wine Festival united winemakers from Ukraine and 4 EU countries in Vynogradiv, Zakarpatska oblast. With EU in Ukraine and FAO support, they exchanged knowledge, held blockchain-based tastings & explored a new wine-gastro route.

Vadym, a farmer from Donetska oblast, used a $1000 voucher from FAO & La France en Ukraine 🇨🇵🇪🇺 to buy sunflower seeds. He sowed 15 hectares near the frontline, ensuring food and income despite constant risk. That’s not just a crop – it’s stability for his family & a war-affected hromada.
