“it was never so clear to me as in this episode that, despite FC’s usefulness to some ppl as a coping strategy, its continued use masks & distorts the realities of living a life w/ & supporting the needs of individuals with profound autism…sometimes w/ tragic consequences.“

Agreed. We're being asked by proponents of FC/S2C/RPM to believe--on faith--in the miraculous power of the technique, when there is a down-to-earth reason why FC "works" (e.g., facilitator cueing and control over letter selection).

"It seems from Robbins’ refrain that this is all she has to offer: her years of experience testing diverse subjects with multiple disabilities, and 'I did what I was asked.'" (Before testing A.L., Robbins had never used S2C on any other clients).

The accusation of ableism (from the fundamentally ableist snake oil of FC/S2C/the Telepathy Tapes) is supposed to shut down any questions like this. Why can't anyone show that it actually works? x.com/FCisnotScience…

Just a reminder that we're happy to consider reports of FC/S2C/RPM success that are reliably controlled and address the problems of facilitator cueing during letter selection. Anecdotes and testimonials, though interesting, are not reliably controlled evidence.

What we're told to believe about FC, Telepathic Abilities, and Individuals with Profound Autism: Thoughts about the Telepathy Tapes (Episode 10) facilitatedcommunication.org/blog/what-were…

Methinks they doth protest too much. Proponents of FC/S2C/RPM really just don't want critics of FC looking too closely at their (facilitators') behaviors.

“We’re told the presence of additional brain wave activity proves telepathic abilities in one case study and the absence of additional brain wave activity proves telepathic abilities in another case study. So, which are we to believe?“

Yes. A total nightmare. He asked authorities to give him a lie detector test, but they wouldn't. He pleaded for the court to order authorship testing. The facilitator refused. The judge, seeing FC for what it is, dismissed the charges and expunged his records.

The difference between being presented via (dishonest) audio in the Telepathy Tapes and through slickly edited promotional videos, and the realities of proving it in court: excuses, bluster, and finally, acquiescence to lack of evidence by S2C proponents. x.com/FCisnotScience…

Yes, we'll probably never know the reasons behind the settlement, but we can still learn a lot when S2C "experts" are asked to explain their actions in a court of law. None of them had any reliably controlled evidence to explain their belief in S2C.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during the discussions about settling the case, but still, we can learn a lot about the "experts'" testimonies.
