Staying overnight with Charles Wooley, we decided to go to and visit the wonderful Great Lake Hotel and catch up with the owner James Johns. It was chilly as you can see from the temperature on the drive back to Charles’s shack at 5.31pm

Thoroughly enjoyed today’s annual King Charles III birthday luncheon. Guest speaker was the Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania. The Governor and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers AO are always great company. Surprised I was wearing the same tie.

The number of Whisky distilleries in England has exploded and that is a good thing. Scottish and Irish whisky’s taste quite different, to me anyway so having English brands will add to the variety and flavour profile.

Thank you to Carol Davis FSAScot, Festival Director of the Melbourne Tartan Festival for such an amazing day on Sunday for the annual Tartan Parade. It was very pleasing to see so many young people in Collins Street who came to watch the parade.

My wife ordered some wine from Virgin and it came with two complimentary Dartington crystal glasses. These are brilliant. We won’t be using our stemmed glasses anymore.

Melbournians don’t seem to like Docklands much because it’s too quiet but as I’m not a fan of crowds, it’s where I like to stay as I did on the weekend. In their defense, there are not many restaurants open there on a Sunday but it’s a quick tram into town for that.

9 years ago today, Charles Wooley and I with the Sixty Minutes film crew enjoyed drinking Rob Roy Cocktails outside of the Craigellachie Hotel in Scotland. Such a great night. Rob Roy cocktails became a staple for us that week. The best one we tasted was made by the Clan Chief.

The Killin Highland Games is on today and I miss not being there as I have attended three of them. I hope the Patron of the event, Clan Chief Jamie Macnab had an excellent day with his kinfolk and attendees.

It’s quite rare that my wife Fiona and I get a photo together. Here we are at the Athenaeum Club in Hobart for the Consular Corps of Tasmania Dinner last week. It was a wonderful night.
