“Risk” means probability of a future, negative health outcome. Disease is about certainty, it’s here and now. Obesity can be one or the other at the individual level. Accurate diagnosis must distinguish preclinical obesity vs clinical obesity for personalized, cost-effective care

Clinical obesity is a disease because it is defined and diagnosed by organ dysfunctions directly caused by obesity alone. A list of diseases associated with obesity is not a (standalone) disease diagnosis. Such frameworks cement the idea of obesity as a risk rather than disease
