My favourite part of academia is when you first get what you think is a great idea, assemble a stack of good books to read, and nothing about the project annoys you yet

So, Dr. Hannah Schacter and I ran a study to see what we could learn! We conducted the study with teens because their self-esteem normally declines during adolescence. We wanted to see if affirmations could prevent these declines.

We found that teens who engaged in an affirmation writing exercise about their identities or values several times over a year maintained their self-esteem. Yay! However, teens that didn’t affirm themselves, declined in their self-esteem over the year (as expected).
