Our vision for Family Safeguarding is 'to keep more children safe at home with their families'. Family Safeguarding is a whole family approach to working with children and families that supports parents to create sustained change for themselves and for their family.

The Family Safeguarding Model was developed to encompass 5 core components designed to provide the right help, at the right time, direct working with families to effect positive change. Family Safeguarding aligns to the reforms, contact us at [email protected]

Multi-disciplinary teams is 1 of the 5 core components of Family Safeguarding. Specialist workers and social workers work together using Motivational Interviewing skills to support parents with their issues including mental health, domestic abuse and substance use.

Team Managers in Family Safeguarding are responsible for managing the team and hold overall decision making for the children and families they support. They chair Family Safeguarding supervision and are responsible for allocating work to the multi-disciplinary teams.

Social Workers in Family Safeguarding teams use Motivational Interviewing skills to work with families to support change. Their direct work is guided by the Family Programme which helps assess the support and help the family need and evaluate whether things are improving.

Children's Practitioners in the FS teams work collaboratively with the Social Worker to work directly with children/parents/carers to help them achieve change within their families guided by the Family Programme. They use MI & support the development of essential parenting skills

The Family Safeguarding Business Support Officers provide effective and timely support to the team including scheduling and minuting Family Safeguarding supervision, coordinating diaries and assisting with data management hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/busin… #Familysafeguarding

Domestic Abuse Officers in #Familysafeguarding teams provide 1-2-1 support with stress, anger and controlling behaviour & deliver the Better me, Better Us and Parenting in Action group programmes for those who are or may be perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Recovery Workers in #Familysafeguarding teams support parents with issues around substance use. They work directly on a 1-2-1 and deliver the Parent's Recovery Group Programme. They use #Motivationalinterviewing techniques to help work towards recovery and achieve change.

The Mental Health specialists in our multi-disciplinary #Familysafeguarding teams provide timely psychological assessments and evidence-based individual and/or group support to parents/carers with a wide-variety of mental health support needs.

Motivational Interviewing is at the heart of our practice. The Multi-disciplinary #Familysafeguarding Team use Motivational Interviewing skills to create a collaborative, reflective working environment with families and each other.

Parents who have experienced #Familysafeguarding and #Motivationalinterviewing say they feel they are 'worked with' rather than 'done to' and that they feel empowered to resolve their own problems with practitioner's help and support.
