But… Statistics *is* very much subjective, no matter how hard you try to make it sound objective. I would encourage people to use “subjective” even more, until we get past denial and begin to properly appreciate and interpret subjectivity.

I can speak from first hand experience that this is an opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss! Marc is the greatest mentor one can hope for.

Glad to see my academic sister Fan Bu from Duke Stats/UCLA Biostats already emerging as an important figure. She must have caught the same save-the-world-with-biostats bug from Marc Suchard 🙃

I just spent *90 minutes* hopelessly driving around campus searching for a parking spot. That took me across four parking structures, driving up and down more than 15 levels. Mind you, that is after paying almost $800 for a parking permit.

It was a great pleasure when I took an earlier version of this course at Duke. I’m still benefiting from it years later. When people ask me “where did you learn all this” I say “I learned it from the best!” :)

Just read “the lifecycle of software objects” by Ted Chiang. Completely blown away. Deep reflections on humanity, about growth, maturity, autonomy and free will, through a fascinating tale of humanized AI. It was written way before GenAI, but is still ahead of our time.

Couldn’t have envisioned this in my wildest dreams… I’ve been following their rivalry since 14 and made my first paycheck writing about tennis because of them. And now they are a team. Wow.

To single out one racial / ethnic group in a comment about unethical use of AI is unacceptable. I can’t even imagine if another minority group was targeted in the keynote speech, what the general outrage would be. We might be nice, but we are not pushovers.
