When I was only 24, I drove up to Pearisburg a few times and wrote several stories about this team. I'm now 69, meaning not only is this a fun and interesting sports book, but now also qualifies for me as an ancient history book :)

Part 14 | Masterful deception by Michigan as they return to “128 Pass.” Notice the delayed release by the left end. Crisler has the right end sprint through the safety so the left end can find the open area underneath.

Part 15 | Having already completed the pass to the motioning wingback twice for big gains, Fritz Crisler comes back to the complementary plays. Here, the tailback sells the off-tackle play to that side, but runs the jump pass to the left end.

Jeremy Haymore Jeremy Haymore is the author of "The Bandana Express", I asked him why people, if they aren't history nuts like me, would like the book if they aren't a fan of the Giles Spartans. tinyurl.com/yc3ktvnm

Part 16 | Here, we see a version of the buck lateral pass that Crisler called “141 Transcontinental.” The tag indicates that the passer will throw it all the way back across the field on a throwback route. In this case, to the blocking back for the touchdown. Michigan 28, USC 0.

I am grateful to Jermaine Ferrell and WFXR Sports for their interest in covering The Bandana Express. Jermaine was recently honored as the top sportscaster in Virginia, and his devotion to high school sports is one of the reasons why. If you aren't already watching his coverage

One of the kindest, most sincere, passionate, loving people I have ever met. And when he looked at you with that twinkle in his eye, you knew he was proud of you. He would still tell you, but he didn't have to. He made a lot of boys into better men.

A Legend in every sense. Our community has suffered a great loss. Coach Lineburg was a coach and mentor to so many young people, his influence will carry on. Our deepest condolences to the Lineburg family and our community.

Part 17 | With a sizeable lead in the second half, the “Mad Magicians” keep coming. Crisler calls the buck lateral end around designated as “142” in his 1947 playbook. While we don’t see it here, there is definitely a lateral possibility as the tailback trails downfield.

The Commonwealth experienced a great loss today. Coach Lineburg was not only an exceptional coach but an even more remarkable human being—one of the most caring and compassionate individuals I’ve known. Truly one of a kind-touched countless lives over his 45-year career. 🖤💛

Another superb article on The Bandana Express, this time by The Roanoke Times and sports reporter Matt Case. I appreciate Matt taking the time to discuss the book and my journey in bringing it to life. 💯

Part 18 | Now in the fourth quarter, Fritz Crisler calls a spin reverse pass with the wingback passing. As he sets up, he looks back toward the right and hits the tailback wheeling out of the backfield on a throwback route. Perfection. Michigan 42, USC 0.
