From the Globe on Devers being dealt to the Giants: “The team's feeling was that a $313.5M contract comes with responsibilities to do what is right for the team and that Devers did not live up to those responsibilities. They had enough and they traded him.”

Per Buster Olney - the Red Sox did not shop Rafael Devers around the league.

Breslow got undercut by ownership on this Devers trade. Giants ownership complained to John Henry that Breslow was asking for too much in return. This trade was all about dumping the Devers contract.
