The Taliban’s systemic exclusion of women and girls from public life, education, and employment constitutes gender apartheid. This enforces a discriminatory system that segregates and subordinates women, violating fundamental human rights and principles of equality. #humanrights

The UN is meant to champion justice and human rights globally. Not inviting Afghan women to the Doha meeting calls into question its values and principles. Agreeing with the Taliban to exclude women sets a harmful precedent that will be remembered for years.

The Taliban prohibiting girls from education not only creates a lack of opportunity for women, but also harms future generations of women in Afghanistan by preventing them from pursuing careers outside the home. Stop gender apartheid and let Afghan girls learn.
