New Peirosauridae from Brazil just dropped! 🚨🐊 Meet Epoidesuchus tavaresae, from the Adamantina Formation (Late Cretaceous), a new pepesuchine peirosaurid, which was long-snouted and semiaquiatic. The great paleoart below was done by Guilherme Gehr. anatomypubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ar…

EXTREMELY proud of our lab members for their participation in this year's Brazilian Congress of Paleontology! Lots of great interactions and possible new collaborations. And even a best presentation prize (congrats Thayara!) 🥹💚

Great day for Mesozoic amphibians: tadpoles from the Jurassic stem-frog Notobatrachus show early origin of anuran metamorphosis. This is a fantastic fossil (look at those cranial nerves!) and highly consequential for amphibian origins research. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Ever wondered how giant Miocene crocodylians (e.g. Purussaurus and Mourasuchus) attained such large sizes? In this new paper led by PhD student Ana Laura S. Paiva, we show that climate of the Western Amazonian region played a key role! sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Follow the thread 🧵 👇

Tired of flattened early bird fossils? Today is your lucky day. Very happy to finally welcome 'Navaornis hestiae' to the world! It allowed us to see for the first time a (near)complete enantiornithine brain. Today in nature: nature.com/articles/s4158… #spinningskull

Thrilled to share: out now in nature (!) & just in time for US Thanksgiving, the dinosaurian history of how your turkey does the twist. Fibular reduction enabled mid-drumstick mobility, unlocking extreme knee long-axis rotation in theropods 🍗🦖🧵 nature.com/articles/s4158…

Crocodylomorphs were once far more diverse than they are today. 🐊 Fossils from Brazil’s Late Cretaceous Bauru Group include terrestrial notosuchians w/varied ecology. New analysis of Barreirosuchus franciscoi reveals semiaquatic abilities Fachini et al.: doi.org/10.1002/ar.256…

I am delighted to announce the release of our latest paper on the evolution of giant #sloths in Science Magazine: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… An effort that lasted years, spanned continents, and put together a team of great scientists and friends. CONICET Dialoga Exactas UBA

Ancient sloths ranged in size from tiny climbers to ground-dwelling giants. Now, researchers report in Science that this body size diversity was largely shaped by sloths’ habitats, and that these animals’ precipitous decline was likely a result of increasing human pressures.
