“God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth… Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun… He swalloweth them up as alive, in his wrath. The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge” (Psalm 57: 7-11)

Either they were just shooting their mouths off before or they’re lying now. Take your pick. This is what happens when you appoint unserious people to high office.

Edward Feser (@feseredward) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes, #1, though I think it’s less a matter of making it up than simply running their mouths without actually knowing what they were talking about. And what people need to consider is that this is true of many others among these officials and influencers, and on many other topics

Watched yet again the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, one of the great 70s flicks. It will now always remind me of the woke madness that seemed to overtake the country in the summer of 2020. We have many grave problems today but at least that one has subsided a bit

It’s possible she did indeed mean that the paperwork related to the matter was on her desk, even if a natural reading is that the list itself was on her desk. But even so, it doesn’t change the fact that there is a contradiction between the hype then and the downplaying now

Yes, any Trump fans who insist the DOJ is lying are backing themselves into a position that would imply that Trump himself is permitting a cover-up – which conflicts with their narrative that he alone will at last reveal all secrets. They really have no off-ramp from this farce

Two serious scholars and loyal sons of the Church badly treated during the previous pontificate. Whether or not one agrees with all the details of their diagnosis of that pontificate, the problems they raise will not go away, and must be (and will be) addressed sooner or later

This is about as blatant a separation of powers violation that you will ever see. Congress, not the courts, decides how to spend our taxpayer dollars. The appellate courts need to drop the Hammer of Thor on this ruling.

What new strata of depravity must we reach before we finally admit that it was a monumental error to treat sexual vices as mere foibles, and that in fact they have a strong tendency to darken the mind, weaken the will, and destroy decent instincts?

Dilemma for MAGA: Either there really is a grand Epstein conspiracy or there isn’t. If there is, then the administration is covering it up and can’t be trusted; if there isn’t, then the administration’s hype about it all this time was just hot air and it can’t be trusted. Ergo...

🎯The life of the mind is about the pursuit of truth, for its own sake and come what may. When it's put at the service of something else, such as partisan politics or the goal of “branding” oneself as an “influencer,” it is quickly corrupted and yields only hackwork and sophistry

Reasonable enough points, but such caution and nuance are not likely to be calmly considered by people whose leaders have spent years whipping them up into a frenzy and insisting that they alone can and will reveal dark secrets. When you play to the mob you’re playing with fire.

Good points. Similar to the way anti-death penalty theologians appeal to “Thou shalt not murder” while ignoring the many nearby passages explicitly sanctioning the death penalty. Liberal theologians often decry proof-texting, yet their positions typically rest on precisely that.

Praised be Jesus Christ! I am very humbled to have received this letter from His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, for the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of my ordination to the Holy Priesthood. Please join me in thanking Our Lord for the election of Pope Leo XIV, Successor of Saint

This is a tremendous tribute to Cardinal Burke by the Pope. Note Leo’s emphasis on Burke’s legal expertise. Canon law lies in ruins and the Pope knows it. Also, the cardinal is a profoundly holy man. Even if you don’t agree with his views that should be obvious.
