Thanks EU at the UN - Geneva #MultilateralismMatters for hosting Amy Pope and me to discuss current challenges — more crises, more displacement, less aid. Our message: it’s crucial that EU support to refugees and migrants stays strong. The contrary will create instability and more people will be on the move.

A pleasure as always to exchange with @BobRae, Ambassador of Canada 🇨🇦 to the United Nations 🇺🇳 in New York and UN ECOSOC President President. His advice and support are especially valuable as humanitarian and development aid face unprecedented challenges.

President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno assured me today that Chad will continue to give refuge to people fleeing war and violence. UNHCR on its part will keep striving to mobilize international resources to support the response to the influx of Sudanese refugees.

At least 32 civilians killed, 100+ injured in today’s tragic Russian attack on Sumy🇺🇦 UNHCR’s partner NGO Proliska is on site, providing psychological 1st aid, emergency shelter materials, blankets & hygiene kits to affected families. This is unacceptable. This must stop.

Thanks David Lammy for hosting the London Conference on Sudan — with a welcome focus on a political solution to the war; and substantive humanitarian pledges, which we hope will bring much needed resources to relief efforts inside Sudan and in refugee hosting countries.

For lasting peace in Sudan, there must be stability. Innocent civilians should not be forced to flee their homes. Meeting with Amb. Bankole Adeoye and Filippo Grandi, I discussed protecting refugees fleeing the fighting and working with the African Union for a stable Sudan.

May you rest in peace, Pope Francis. You stood up and spoke out — relentlessly — for the poor, the persecuted, the victims of war, the refugees, the migrants. May you continue to give us faith and courage in this brutal world. Pope Francis

Thanks to UN ECOSOC President President Bob Rae for convening an important discussion on how to address the issue of forced displacement in a sustainable manner — supporting the self reliance of refugees and displaced people; and ensuring that host communities benefit from the responses.

In times of ostentatious wealth and arrogant power, Pope Francis was led to his grave on the back of a pick up, met by disabled and homeless people, inmates and refugees. Thank you for speaking truth to power and reminding us all — once more — what really matters. Apostolica Sedes Vacans

“Preventing and stopping war – upholding peace and security – this is the Security Council’s mandate. This is your primary responsibility. And one that this body has chronically failed to live up to.” My statement of today to the United Nations Security Council 👇🏻 unhcr.org/news/speeches-…
