It's important to celebrate the small things in life. A trip to a project site along the Harvey River led to the discovery of a freshwater mussel, a native conostylis in flower, and the remains of something's meal (possibly Rakali). Hopefully the Rakali doesn't spot the mussel.

After lots of green sawfish pups over the last few days, it was also nice to catch a 2.7m girl that we had previously caught. Was also good to see our first salty in the river which was pretty timid but made the sawfish look small. SawfishConservation Murdoch University

In Western Australia’s Shark Bay region researchers have for the first time found a curious, rare parasite in the wild on the elusive and powerful giant guitarfish. It's discovery is helping to inform critical conservation work. theage.com.au/environment/co…

After 8 years, I am retiring as ASFB Communications Manager. This is an excellent job opportunity, perhaps for a student looking to supplement their income: part-time, remote, and with flexible working hours. Wonderful colleagues, and you'll learn plenty about fish!

Wonderful to see one of our lesser-known freshwater fish getting some publicity. The stocky galaxias (Galaxias tantangara) was first described in 2014 by Tarmo Raadik and has only two known populations, both in the Kosciuszko National Park. smh.com.au/environment/co…

A large shellfish reef built in the Swan by The Nature Conservancy has been found to filter 35% of the total volume of the estuary over winter. The mussels absorbed 42 tonnes of organic matter into tissue. Scientists would like to see one in Elizabeth Quay next. murdoch.edu.au/news/articles/…
