I suppose it's easier than calling in fleets of lorries and Terragators, but small-scale liming on the wild bird strips is a messy business. Especailly when the agitator jams at the bottom of the hopper, and the drive wheel refuses to turn...

A university flatmate - not seen for nearly forty years - called in unannounced yesterday. Of course we headed for the pub. "No beer for me," he said. "It makes my gout kick off." Then we discussed prostates and hearing aids. I hate getting old.

Good morning Wayngels, you knew it was coming! For some unexplainable reason and to everyones surprise it’s suddenly got really hot! Experts reckon its something to do with cows and Michael Barrymore, but im not convinced. Anyway expect to burn to death around lunch-time.🦺🔥🥵

"Is this the start of things to come?" shrieks the donkey-voiced commentator in the BBC's clip of Crawley being caught in the slips. Er, well, yes; everything is.

#heatwave 1976 - there's a hose (top left) taking bathwater to an old tin bath (just visible), and watering cans take the water to the veggie patch. Dad is also trying to reopen the huge bellchamber water reservoir under the lawn - the one he concreted over as a hazard in 59!

It's the thrilling finish to a monumental Test match, and the #bbccricket TMS muppets want to tell us all about Glastonbury.

Got stuck in a queue of a couple of dozen cars on the A272, on the way to a big gig last night. At the front was an AD tractor and trailer. I assume their faux-green credentials mean they don't have to pull over and let traffic past.

Greta Thunberg delivers a climate warning at Glastonbury. The aftermath of Glastonbury, where they all chanted “climate justice” in support of Greta Thunberg who was flown in to lecture on the planet, the largest gathering of hypocrites.

The weather forecast for the next few days had to be shelved tonight while the BBC brought us breathless reporting from the sex trial of someone called 'Diddy' Combs in NY. The loathesome BBC really hasn't got a clue any more, has it?

Can you guess how many times I had to rewrite this before it was fit (i.e., calm enough) to print? fwi.co.uk/news/opinion/o…

"Somewhere in the attic," my mother often said, "is a cine film taken just after we got the farm tenancy in 1959." I've finally found it, unseen all those years. youtube.com/watch?v=_lv5jP…
