The era of tolerating mistreatment of airline passengers with disabilities is over. Today, our department is announcing a $50 million penalty against American Airlines for numerous serious violations of the rights of wheelchair users. cbsnews.com/news/american-…

I’ll be on Newsnight tonight, speaking about special educational needs provision. Bottom line is, education is not a commodity and the system needs a complete overhaul. Pay is low from schools to universities. Insecure employment is high. Workloads are unsustainable. And all of

How do you have a relationship with managers who adhere to an alternate reality where staff time extends beyond a 24hr day, and where cognitive effort and creativity arise from telling staff that they're shit at their jobs and everything is their fault.

#DisabledByTheRailway 🧵 I'll be documenting the good, the bad, & the ugly of train travels in this thread. Each journey will be numbered, so hopefully it's easy to follow along. People always seemed shocked by poor railway accessibility. Here I can document it all in one place

I had a statement. I also went to one of the 'best' schools in the country. Oh, and I write for the same newspapers that publish these pieces The only way arguments like this add up is if you believe being disabled is bad. We call that ableism

Excited about the new Lucy & Yak store in Canterbury but very disappointing that although there is a ramp to get in there is one single rail that a wheelchair user can actually reach. Basically impossible to shop unless you have a standing person with you (or you want pjs)

The lovely @JohnnyHistone and I are delighted that our new article "Hope in a Paranoid Place? Critique, Utopianism, & Prefigurative Policy Reform" - which proposes an innovative methodological approach to critical policy analysis - will be out soon with Journal of Social Policy!

It’s probably a symptom of how awful everything is today but I actually teared up a bit when I saw that I had been nominated for an EDI award by my colleagues and read their endorsement. Especially today equality work really feels important to do

From today disabled workers effectively "stop" earning for the rest of the year because of the pay gap between us and non-disabled workers. That gap sits at 17.2%, with non-disabled employees making about £2.35 more per hour on average. #DisabilityPayGapDay #FairDues
