A warm but breezy night on the 28th June led to 80+ species and 11 new, which took me over the 500sp for the year mark, 80 up on the same date in 2024! Best was a garden first Silver Barred, backed up by 2nd garden records of Cydia nigricana & Monochroa lucidella. Fordham, Cambs

86 species with 11 new species on the 29th closed a remarkable June for the garden trap. New macros included Copper Underwing, Southern Wainscot, Kent Black Arches & Small Mottled Willow, the latter two new for the garden. 514sp for 2025. Fordham, East Cambs

The 1st of July was an absolute belter, with over 100 species in the garden. No surprise, it was 22c at midnight! Highlights were 3 new garden moths, Anacampsis blattariella/populella, Pammene aurita & Aproaerema taeniolella. 10 new sp make it 524sp for the year. Fordham, Cambs

I made a trip back to Hertfordshire on the 30th of June and joined Colin Plant & Trevor Brownsell at Bramfield Woods near Hertford. A warm day and warm evening saw lots of activity, well over 200sp recorded. Best were 3 Eudemis porphyrana, a Herts first.

A welcome new garden moth on the 6th July, the rather drab and sad looking Ypsolopha vittella, the 8th species of Ypsolopha to be recorded here. Lower numbers as it went cooler. Nice to get good numbers of Southern Wainscot. 535sp for 2025. Fordham, East Cambs.

On the 8th of July, the catch was still low, it was slightly warmer at 24 degrees, but a cooler night. 5 new species was a fair return. Best were Aproaerema anthyllidella, Assara terebrella, Elachista stabilella & 2 Tree-lichen Beauty. 540sp for '25, Fordham, East Cambs

On the 10th July it was a hot and sweltering 30 degrees, with lows of 21c & 24c at midnight! A very busy night, with 90+ sp and 11 new for the year, including 2 new garden moths. Best new macro moths were Canary-shouldered Thorn, Jersey Tiger & Vapourer Moth. 551sp for 2025.

The 11th of July yielded just 3 new species, a big come down on recent standards. Numbers still high with species over 60, but variety less. Best were Bucculatrix thoracella (not seen for 3 years), Oak Eggar (1st male since 2006) & Yellow-tail. 554sp for 2024. Fordham, East Cambs

I made a second trip back to NW Essex at Hadstock on the 10th of July. It was a warm but breezy evening with a full moon. Nevertheless I recorded 171sp over 4hrs. Best macro moths included Lesser-spotted Pinion, Lunar-spotted Pinion, 20+ Magpie Moth & the uncommon Plain Golden Y

After taking the first county record for Cambridgeshire of Psoricoptera gibbosella in 2023 at Ditton Park Woods, it was great to record it once more this year on the 12th of July, at the very same spot! A truly pretty and unusual micro moth with shades of green and pink.
