Sporting bright blooms and brilliant fall color, it's no surprise that dogwoods are one of the first species to sell out in our seedling store. This year, however, we still have 'em in stock. Order now, inventory is low and the store closes soon❗➡️ BuyVATrees.com

While walking a property in Cumberland County, private forester Wyatt L. showed DOF District Forester Dave P. a patch of lady's slippers (Cypripedium acaule) being preserved during ongoing management work. They also encountered a ratsnake (Pantherophis quadrivittatus). 🐍🌸

Going camping soon? 🏕️ Be sure to buy or harvest firewood at your destination. This avoids the accidental transportation and spread of invasive pests hiding in firewood. 🪵🚫🪲 Buy firewood at your campground or find nearby sellers using FirewoodScout.org.

Red spruce (Picea rubens) is in its rebound era. ✨🌲📈 Climate sensitivity, overharvesting and slash-burning have greatly reduced red spruce range and abundance. To help restore red spruce populations, DOF is growing seedlings at its nurseries to plant at state forests.

Find the turtle! 🐢🔍 Here's an obligatory fun fact for #WorldTurtleDay: Did you know eastern box turtles (Terrapene carolina carolina) stay within a territory of about an acre? It's important to never move box turtles (unless helping them cross a road)!

Almost half of Virginia’s surface drinking water originates from forests.🚰🌳 DOF promotes clean water by collaborating with landowners & loggers to prioritize water quality, establish riparian buffers, & protect forests along key watersheds through conservation easements.💧🛡️
