Thank you all for a phenomenal celebration of March Haynes’s birthday on Saturday the 4th! But don’t worry if you missed it! Birthdays might be a once-a-year deal, but you can find out more about March Haynes’ life every day of the year Fort Pulaski is open!

Fort Pulaski archeologists found this larger fragment of a stoneware jug in the Kitchen of the Workers’ Village. We know from the style of jug, and the brown colored glaze on the inside, called an Albany slip, that this style was common in the mid to late 19th century.

As part of #AmeriCorpsWeek, we wanted to highlight our #CommunityVolunteerAmbassador, Terese Glasgow, a SCAD graduate from Lansing, MI. Terese began her 50-week internship supporting our volunteer program last September. She has already done so much to grow our program!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Irish laborers formed a militia unit named after Irish Revolutionary War hero Sergeant William Jasper, who died in the siege of Savannah. They garrisoned Fort Pulaski when the state of Georgia seized the fort in 1861.

Happy #StPatricksDay! Irish-American Felix Brannigan served at Fort Pulaski with the 103rd United States Colored Troops in 1865. Brannigan evolved from a bitter Irish immigrant with strong racist views to a champion of Black citizenship during Reconstruction.

The spring equinox is upon us and while the begging of spring may be marked by a date, it is truly defined by the changes in nature we can observe around us. Our warm welcome to spring was led by our incredible fig tree located on the parade ground of the fort!

National Take a Walk in the Park Day is coming up on March 30th! Before you hit the trail, get your essentials together so you can hit the ground running - or biking, or rolling, or walking, or birding! Can you think of anything we "forgot" when we put this trail bag together?

Did you know today is National Medal of Honor Day? The day commemorates the over 3,500 U.S. soldiers awarded their nation’s highest military decoration. Joseph Hibson, 48th New York, earned the Medal of Honor when he was only twenty years old in the attack on Battery Wagner.

Georgia’s marshlands are a critical part of a healthy Georgia, providing everything from safe habitat for keystone and historic foodways species to buffering human cities from the effects of storm surge and climate change. But in our opinion, they’re also a spectacular view!

#OnThisDay in 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt established the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was a group instrumental in the restoration of Fort Pulaski. The Great Depression changed the nation and the lives of those who lived through it.

When you visit Fort Pulaski, we recommend you take a map to explore the trails. But what happens when you don't have a map? You might get lost! That's what happened to Lieutenant Patrick O'Rorke in January 1862. He even had to be rescued by a fellow officer!

A couple weeks ago, while setting up for an event, park staff came across a set of deer antlers lying on the ground in the parking lot. They have eight points, making them quite large! Ranger Dana and Ranger Candice for scale.
