‘You would not believe the amount of bone pics I get sent!’ Such a great night performing for Sydney Fringe with @ScienceTalksSyd! Sharing stories from Found A Fossil + interesting inquiries - from dinos to human finger bones! (Don’t stress, it turned out to be a rock) 🦕

LAUNCHED TODAY! My personal website - a showcase of ME as an educator, communicator, and scientist is live. In an effort to provide more role models for kids, I’ll be travelling to schools, doing speaking gigs, talking about my adventures in STEM. sallyhurst.com.au

How can we tell our science stories to a wider audience? Yesterday I had the privilege of doing another round of media training with the #superstarsofstem at SBS News Australia!

Not only did I get to do some videos with ABC Science but I got to have a chat with the incredible Shelby Traynor about the Found a Fossil project! We talked about how I got started, and what I’ve been up to recently in Canada! 🦕 Listen below: abc.net.au/listen/program…

“Leadership doesn’t always have to be revolutionary. Quiet inspirations that can also help to change the world.” From exploring the value of role models, the messiness of being human, I was delighted to give a keynote speech at the Macquarie University Year 12 Leadership Forum 🦕

What does it take to get a fossil out of the rock? Visiting the @unescience Palaeo Labs, I’ve spent the past two weeks learning how to prep fossils: sieving shark teeth, operating on opalised fossils, touching temnospondyl teeth, and digging out Diprotodon (giant wombat) bones!

Why is a shark not a dinosaur? 🦈 My Grade 3 class fromAlberta, Canada had great questions today, and we got to take a dive into phologenies, character mapping, and fossils! It was awesome to be able to share my own finds from Alberta and talk about dinosaurs local to the kids!

International Women’s Day always makes me think about the women who have had the biggest impact on my own life. So here’s a list of a few women who have inspired me, shared their experiences with me, mentored me, and (I think) made me a better human 🧵#IWD2024

For the past week I’ve been lucky enough to join a crew from Uni of Reading + Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology to assist on a dinosaur dig! This is my second time coming to the incredible Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada - one of the richest dinosaur fossil beds in the entire world 🦖
