Question(s) for the #fractiontalks community: When you started using the images, what big questions did you have? What do you know now that would help someone starting out? What โ€œpro-tipsโ€ do you have to share? #MTBoS #iteachmath #fractiontalk

Here's an interesting #UpscalePB challenge I just stumbled across: what's the minimum number of blocks it takes to make a triangle using all three sizes of triangle block? Here's a polypad version of the problem Mathigon #iteachmath #mtbos mathigon.org/polypad/dZbVvRโ€ฆ

You can use any other blocks you want, as long as your triangle includes those three. Incidentally, these blocks are on a pretty great sale on Amazon right now! amazon.com/Math-Love-Upscโ€ฆ

@MarieMcMB Fraction Talks is literally my next stop after the physical tangrams. So great for reasoning! ...and yes, some students want a strategy that works every time. I like hearing all strategies and comparing, noticing, generalizing...๐Ÿ˜

Fawn Nguyen Berkeley Everett Simon Gregg I do love having kids create! I will also say that I tend to use this as a number talk/Fraction Talks pretty early on in the Gr 4 fraction work, and it really brings out some important ideas around unit fractions and equivalence. But a different purpose than your original tweet!

How many ways can you show one quarter? Gr 7 Ss @LeslieThomasSch used a fraction square to shade 1/4 as many different ways as they could. One question that led to lots of rich conversations. #HRCEMath Fraction Talks
