Thank you Naomi. If exams are such a good idea I'm surprised they are not used to appoint senior education staff. It would avoid all of those role play sessions, presentations, the formal questions etc. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

We have a new Ofsted Chair of the Board: Good. We have no radical change in methodology: Bad. Risks to senior staff remain.

I have discovered a number of inspectors who do not understand confidence intervals and have a vague and often wrong understanding of the performance data they are analysing.

Frank Norris Indeed! I once had a conversation with a new HMI who was clueless about confidence intervals and statistical significance when dealing with data from very small cohorts. Unfortunately, this person was on the 'helpdesk' and not really willing to listen!

In February 2025, I gave a personal response to Ofsted's Fwk proposals. It's clear why it has been necessary to delay implementation. Main reason is that proposals were poorly conceived and did not give a sense that Ofsted had accepted previous failings frankwnorris.co.uk/some-thoughts-…

Naomi, your tweet was so helpful in explaining what the various neuro terms mean and hownthey should be applied. I feel much better informed. I'm giving X a further few days before departing due to your insight.

An excellent keynote, Les. The time is ripe for an accredited education advisory workforce to support the development of schools.
