🚨 New frog species! Thanks to research supported by #FrogID recordings, the Red Tree Frog (Litoria rubella) has been split into three: Red Tree Frog (Litoria rubella) Ruddy Tree Frog (Litoria pyrina) Western Desert Tree Frog (Litoria larisonans) Learn more on the FrogID app!

Thanks to research supported by #FrogID recordings, the Red Tree Frog (Litoria rubella) has been split into three:

Red Tree Frog (Litoria rubella)
Ruddy Tree Frog (Litoria pyrina)
Western Desert Tree Frog (Litoria larisonans)

Thanks, Erin, for recording the Screaming Tree Frog (Litoria quiritatus)! True to its name, it has a loud, harsh call that can sound more like a shriek than a typical frog call. It was formally described in 2021, thanks in part to #FrogID recordings: australian.museum/blog/amri-news…

Calling in the northeast corner of South Australia is the Desert Froglet (Crinia deserticola). This tiny frog thrives in vegetation near edges of still water bodies in black soil regions and will call after rainfall. Keep an ear out for their call and record it with #FrogID.
