Market Urbanism 1) the carry-forward of stuff that predates WW1 in places where it survived until now 2) reconstruction efforts following their respective wars and the government money that facilitated it 3) Southern Europe median population growth rates 1930-1990 were 1/5th of LatAm’s 1960-2020

Post-Menshevik P J I tried to convince a bunch of grad students once that in a lot of e asian households there is close to zero talking at dinner table sometimes. They didn’t believe me until some chinese national came by and said it was true.

Across the world, we see a rise of singles. But young people don't necessarily live alone. In Korea, Greece, Spain & Italy, young people are also overwhelmingly single, but tend to live with their parents.

Here's what Trump's new tariff hikes look like—another 5% on major allies like the EU, Japan, & South Korea. Another 10% on large trading partners like India, Vietnam, & Canada. Some rather insane choices like 39% tariffs on Switzerland, 41% on Syria, and of course 50% on Brazil.

VB Knives The turning point was WW1. It was not a nationalist conflict per say because you have all the Russian leaders with Baltic or Teutonic names/German leaders with Slavic name. It was the last time that transnational European aristocracy played an important role in history

Many of those policy mistakes include some familiar stuff like mismanagement by marketing boards, plus the notorious villageisation in Tanzania. But also: the expulsion/departure of Asians (Indians) from East Africa badly disrupted the domestic food distribution network.

I think it's important to note that Singapore was always wealthy compared to the rest of Asia. Even by 1972 it was; 3x richer than Malaysia 6x richer than Philippines/Thailand 17x richer than Indonesia

Post-Menshevik Yeah and in many ways Spain is kind of Canada's future, there's not going to be a lot of construction literally in the next decade or two if wages don't rise

Canadian Aqua Post-Menshevik Conservative government, liberal government, whatever it doesn't matter. Outcome is the same lol. What makes the Canadian experiment interesting rn is that it's the first serious effort to try and row it back (UK is slightly different), how successful it'll be is influential

This is wild. The Arab world never read Seneca or Ovid or Virgil or St Augustine? This makes it seem like the project of translating Greek, Aramaic, and Persian texts into Arabic was essentially a unique project if Baghdad rather than a generalized Muslim golden age initiative
