Do we or can we “Rise to the occasion” or do we “fall” to the level of our training/preparation? Can we really consistently outperform our prep? If everything goes perfectly and we feel almost superhuman we may “max out” in one competition and do more than we thought…

We are not who we think we are but we are who we think we are. Random thoughts are gonna pop in yet we don’t have to keep dwelling on them. Those thoughts are not us. Who we intentionally think we are is who we will become. As a person thinks in their heart so they will be.

Players: All of your work, training & growth isn’t just for your benefit. It’s for others as well. For your TEAM. When you learn that if you’ll help others get what they want then you’ll have others help you get what you want. This will be true your entire life.

When we solve the problem we rob an opportunity from the kids to struggle, to do a challenging thing, to learn to figure things out and to BUILD RESILIENCE.

Every successful person you see or story you hear, always know that it was preceded by a lifetime of challenges, failures, pain, setbacks, no’s, heartbreak, losses, etc. As we can’t have courage without fear, we can’t have success without stress. Stress is what we make of it.

Too many parents have FOMO and give in to the lies, half-truths, misinformation & fear mongering from those that will profit off their kid specializing. It’s not about trying to be an “elite” 14 yo or less. It is about becoming one of the best 16+ yo’s. Sample Other Sports!

Can we truly work on “foot work” without another person and/or without context? Can we truly work on defensive footwork without another person on offense? Can we truly work on offensive moves without another person on defense? Is it really efficient not to have another player?

Becoming an Efficient Scorer isn’t built & developed by default, it IS built & developed by design. There are more effective ways to build other than all the old-school ways. There isn’t time to waste. Do SMART Hard. Mike Griggs, Coach

If your “grind never stops” then go ahead and keep your orthopedic doc on call as well as your mental coach cuz you’ll need them for preventable overuse injuries and mental fatigue. Success for long distance not a sprint. Do SMART Hard which involves rest & recovery.

“Don’t do anything in practice you won’t do in a game” is misguided advice. When we do things (movements) in practice that we won’t do in games, we will be able to do things/movements in games that we didn’t do in practice. The “I didn’t know I could do that!” comes alive.
