Attn *ALL* Canadian scientists & engineers! Sign open letter to Justin Trudeau & FranΓ§ois-Philippe Champagne (FPC) π¨π¦ (bit.ly/3vWWDQt) asking the CDN Gov to increase NSERC / CRSNG graduate student funding to above the poverty line & #PDFs to a reasonable wage. Pls RT & spread the word!!

Several years ago we headed out into the nearshore to examine if microplastics are biomagnifying in marine food webs. That research has now been published in Ecological Applications doi.org/10.1002/eap.26β¦ Special thanks to The Juanes Lab Dr. Garth Covernton π¨πΌβπ¬π¬π¨πΌβπ»π¨πΌβπ« Hailey Davies DFO Pacific UVic Science

I authored an article in The Conversation Canada with Kieran Cox, Ph.D and Hailey Davies covering some of my PhD work on microplastics and marine food webs. The article closes with a plug for my current postdoc work with Chelsea Rochman and IISD Experimental Lakes Area! theconversation.com/microplastics-β¦

The final version of the paper from my final PhD chapter is now online in Ecological Applications and is open access! Thanks to Kieran Cox, Ph.D, Hailey Davies, and all other co-authors and to @DFO_Science for the support on this big project! esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/eaβ¦

I'm paid through a U of T fellowship , but NSERC / CRSNG sets the standard. When I first moved to Toronto and lived on my own I was spending more than my income every month until I met my current partner and moved in with her. Canada needs to do better. #SupportOurScience

Canada's science & innovation talent pipeline is a massive filter, removing those without external financial support. How many potential Nobel laureates have we excluded? How many who may have cured cancer? Pay emerging scientists a living wage Chrystia Freeland. #SupportOurScience

Earlier this week, Mira and Dr. Garth Covernton π¨πΌβπ¬π¬π¨πΌβπ»π¨πΌβπ« from the Chelsea Rochman lab met up with the Royal Ontario Museum Summer Club to talk through #PlasticPollution, share a behind the scenes of research and discuss potential solutions. Such a fun day!! Thanks for having us!
