Hello sports fans! Recently retired HC Bert Williams here with a lot of time on my hands & decided I wanted to start commenting time to time on college athletics. Convalescing from cancer treatment & a bone marrow transplant gives one lots of time to think, so here goes!

I’m against the allowance to let athletes profit from their likeness, etc. Why? Do they need the$? My opinion- NO! A DI SA has literally EVERY need covered, FA & living $ going back to them, and lives/works in an environment to make a Saudi prince blush. More to follow tomorrow!

Yes, I think so. Look at the incredible amount of money colleges & universities expend on their programs from top to bottom. The money they make in return is simply return on investment, which incidentally rarely covers expenses in individual sports or athletic departments.

What about the likely 95% or more SA’s in all sports who won’t receive ANY $$- just not marketable. The reality is a handful will make $. What problems will that cause on teams?Title IX issues? Problems between other non-benefiting programs? Obligations of schools to monitor?

The comments by Joe Burrowes & others’ on how this change will help the non- scholarship athletes is well intended but unrealistic. Who will go to a sponsored signing to see 3rd/4th team players that never play? A few nice people at first maybe but that will be short lived.

Gonna pick up the convo next week on player compensation- Happy Independence Day to all out there! We all need to spend a few days reflecting on the numerous blessings we have in America and our collective responsibility to support and enhance those blessings for ALL Americans!

I’ve been saying it all week on Twitter. This is another mistake by an organization that should know better.
