Zero hours contracts: 💷Leave too many workers not able to pay the bills. 😷Damage people’s health & wellbeing 👿Undercut good employers who offer guaranteed hours. That’s why 8 in 10 of those on a zero hours contract want regular hours. mirror.co.uk/money/four-fiv…

The fact is that the majority of the Irish people have no collective process to bargain for better wages and conditions The game is rigged and that’s why we need the law CHANGED. 📸 ICTU General Secretary Owen Reidy full square behind our #RespectAtWork campaign.

Very good open discussion with Ministers Peter Burke and Emer Higgins TD with our private sector unions on workers’ rights and the new directive to promote collective bargaining. Important that the 🇮🇪 govt are proactive on this crucial issue

Great to be here at SIPTU Public Services conference in Galway. Currently debating motion in solidarity with #Palestine. Pleased to lead session on tackling racism & the rise of hate, & to hear my Irish Congress (ICTU) colleague Liam Berney on the Adequate minimum wages Directive. #Unionise

So very shocked and saddened by this. Last time I met Jack was 3 weeks ago and he was in great form getting ready for a holiday to the Canary Islands. All of us who knew him will miss him greatly and sincere condolences to his wife Helen and all his friends.

I was very humbled and grateful to receive an honorary doctorate from ⁦Ollscoil na Gaillimhe | University of Galway⁩ earlier this week. I very much see it as recognition of the work of the Irish trade union movement and the work of our 20,000 workplace representatives across the island

Coming out of lockdown, government committed to improve job quality for essential workers who kept shop shelves stocked, cared for old, emptied bins, delivered… Today gov is NOT ❌ increasing sick days to 7 ❌ increasing pay for migrant workers ❌ ending lower youth wage rates.

Crucial that the next government actually transpose the AMWD via the action plan this year. Anything less will be a breach of EU law and incredibly bad faith

Listen back to our conversation about hybrid working and the law. The reality is the law is the floor and not the ceiling. Many of our unions negotiate bespoke hybrid working agreements with employers in the interests of all. One of the many benefits of collective bargaining!

Our statement on the profoundly concerning opinion by the CJEU’s Advocate-General to annul the Minimum Wage Directive. We urge the Court to uphold the directive.
