Russia asked China to join in dumping their US securities in 2008 to further exacerbate the financial crisis. China said no and held on. This must’ve hurt China-Russia relations at the time. I wonder how a similar situation would play out today.

Yet, despite heavy casualties, Putin shows little interest in a truce and remains intent on advancing. Unless Trump finds leverage, peace may remain a Western fantasy—punishment for ignoring reality and failing to act. X/

In other words, expect from China more fiscal expansion and rampant state aid to private sector as world heads in to new era of trade & investment wars. Europe already suffered obverse effects of China’s (and US) industrial policies. EVs only beginning, much more harm to come.

It is unconscionable to allow Russia to assault Ukraine’s sovereignty, recruit enemies like North Korea to aid in their fight, and then sell out the Ukrainians by conceding the loss of their territory and NATO security guarantees or membership.  By making these and others

Good piece on Big Tech’s attempt to create fascist cities within the US--carving up American sovereignty, exiting the American project of democracy, yet relying on the national security state to still give them cover thenerdreich.com/network-state-…

The president is backing up his criticism of media outlets with a barrage of lawsuits. Such cases seem designed mainly to suck up defendants’ time. But news organisations must take them more seriously than in the past econ.st/3Db9CVv

It should not be forgotten that the 🇦🇫 evacuation in September 2021 was just Biden fulfilling the agreement that President Trump had made with the Talibans in February 2020. That agreement was a capitulation to the Talibans. I hope the pattern isn’t repeated.

Not cause I’ve covered both the EU & Canada, but this is the most important relationship for Canada in the years to come. The U.S. relationship will need to be repaired, negotiated and settled -nothing can replace it. But deepening the EU link will be vital. Trade & defense.
