NEW: Sure Start generated widespread, long-lasting benefits for children in education, health, absences, and SEND. Every £1 of up-front spending on Sure Start could generate around £2 in total benefits over the long run. THREAD on our new Nuffield Foundation-funded report: [1/11]

Almost hard to believe that we’re publishing our final capstone report on Sure Start today! This was my first project Institute for Fiscal Studies. I’ve learned so much from working on this evaluation. And there are so many important lessons for policymakers to learn from, too.

Sure start was brilliant it provided playgroups, training courses, preparation for employment, health, cookery, first aid, health visitor drop in, disabled child and parent carer groups,Mother, father, Grandparent support, community based. Sad to see today's children miss out.

📣 SURE START FINAL REPORT OUT!! 🌟So proud to have been part of this journey! 🔟 years of hard work + rigorous analysis, & the evidence speaks clearly: #SureStart worked. 💷 SS returned £2 for every £1 spent. A milestone for #EarlyYears policy. 👉🏻 ifs.org.uk/publications/s…

Peter Stefanovic They did indeed. We led the national evaluation of the impact of Sure Start Children’s Centres , had to use legal services at University of Oxford to get our report published by DfE as Cameron's government didn't like our positive findings. See Sammons et al 2015
