In 2021 this album of sketches and watercolours by 'The Poolewe Artist' Finlay MacKinnon was kindly donated to the Gairloch Museum! Many were created while he was serving on the front line in France in 1915. Find out more about MacKinnon here: app.smartify.org/en-GB/objects/…

A month has passed since the opening of ‘Our Fragile Land’ Exhibition! Our Preview night attracted over 50 attendees who reflected on their relationship with the land, recognizing its beauty, diversity, various uses, & fragility despite its grandeur & majesty.

This pre-1914 photo shows a thatched longhouse on Isle Ewe, known as "Taigh nam Bodach" (The Old Men's House) & "Taigh nan Iasgairean" (The Fishermen's House), the latter due to the influx of east coast fishermen migrating to the island. 🐟 Visit here: app.smartify.org/en-GB/objects/…

This painting depicts Alexander MacPherson, believed to inspire the Gaelic song "I Loved the Fair Haired Laddie" after tragically drowning off Red Point, Gairloch. Born in 1794, he was the younger brother of George MacPherson, a tacksman at Melvaig. app.smartify.org/en-GB/objects/…

Loch Maree & Fisherfield's larger lochs host a population of Black-Throated Divers ( or 'learg-dhubh' in Gaelic). They nest on small islands or artificial rafts, moving to the coast in winter. They are superb swimmers & divers, but very clumsy on land! app.smartify.org/en-GB/objects/…
