It’s #WorldFishMigrationDay! Large impoundments effect gravel migration in many rivers, reducing vital spawning habitat for salmonids. See our short video produced with ⁦Galloway Glens⁩ to learn about an exciting project ⁦World Fish Migration Day⁩ facebook.com/87120780635844…

We had a chilly meeting today with _ discussing the transportation of surplus gravel from the Deugh to the Black Water of Dee (BWD) below Clatteringshaws Dam. The added gravel will enhance instream habitats and improve salmonid spawning habitat on the Black Water of Dee.

After 2 years of consultation the Sectoral Marine Plan for Offshore Wind Energy in Scotland was published this week. No sites are being taken forward for SW Scotland. The proposed site in the outer Solway Firth was potentially in the path of migratory fish facebook.com/60345829300936…

This week Jamie checked the fish pass at the Loups of Dalnigap.Ā  The pass was built in 1911 to allow salmon and sea trout easy access into the upper 7 km of the Luce.Ā  Over hundred years later and it is still working effectively!

We met with Story Contracting and IKM Consulting on the Dalmakether Burn - Annan to discuss practical mitigation measures to protect fish and water quality during the replacement of a railway culvert and substrate management work. We caught a Brook lamprey while surveying the site

Recently it’s been all hands on deck to get lots of deciduous trees planted on the Tarf and the Luce to future-proof the waterways against climate change by providing dappled shade to keep the water cool. Nearly 1000 trees planted so far! Former NatureScot account #Biodiversitychallengefund

Kacie has been checking her cameras at gravel addition sites on the Black Water of Dee. This monitoring helps us understand how floods are washing the gravel into the river and plan future work. She's had great photos already, a heron fishing, a trout angler and a skinny dipper!

Fantasic rainbow moment as Kacie, Dan and Phil plant more deciduous trees today on the Cree catchment. In the future these trees will provide vital dappled shading along the watercourse, to the benefit of an array of aquatic species throughout the summer heat.

We're improving riparian habitat along the Piltanton Burn, near Stranraer, by fencing and planting native trees thanks to the Nature Restoration Fund (NatureScot). This area supports important sea trout and lamprey populations and we hope to improve water quality and temperature
