'The BIGGEST citizen science project on drought and heat ever'?! Not that I wasn't aware, but crazy nonetheless! Check out our website for more! Oh, and make sure to sign up, as well 😁. English (summary): curieuzeneuzen.be/en/home-en/ Dutch: curieuzeneuzen.be

After years of searching, I was finally able to spot my first Philodromus fuscomarginatus yesterday. This beautiful running spider is typically found on the bark of sunlit conifers and rarely observed in Belgium. Good start for the arthropod season!

Very happy with my first spot of Callilepis nocturna! This gorgeous and rare ground spider (Gnaphosidae) is typically found in sparsely vegetated areas where it preys almost exclusively on ants.

Glad to see that the local ladybird spiders (Eresus sandaliatus) are still going strong despite the destruction of their habitat. The large number of males that I managed to observe this weekend made me hopeful again for the future of this beautiful species.

Next, learning about global arthropod dispersal from Garben Logghe! DYK aphids grow wings to enable dispersal when population densities become high? And spiders make specialized silk to balloon away 🎈

Want to learn how body size ratios and prey defenses determine links in arthropod food webs? You can read about it in my first paper together with @ruben_vdwalle, available via Journal of Animal Ecology : doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…. Thank you TEREC and FWO for the support!
