Long story short, it requires no fertiliser, chemical inputs, and is a vital crop to many female owned farms across West Africa.

Next in our “Brewing For Impact” series, Carlsberg have created a beer brewed from 100% fonio, with no other grains used. It’s a remarkable and complex drink - perfectly clear and colorless, gluten-free, and reminiscent of sake. And growing African fonio requires zero inputs!

I sat final panel for the judging of CBOB that year, and the conversation was “spirited” to say the least. Could any British beer claiming to be “British Best Bitter” be so pale, so hoppy? Pale Rider paved the road many of us still drive on today. All hail!
