The problem is you think you have time. On average, we get 80 summers…if we’re lucky. Don’t put off the trip. Stop waiting for life to begin. Stay up late with friends. Get up early to watch the sunrise. Catch every sunset. Book the trip. Get on the lake. Life is short.

Loss can be devastating, but the true defeat is if you fail to move onward.

When I returned from my holiday in Spain at the end of May, I was stunned by the invasion on bamboo shoots in my precious English lawn. And how they had grown more than one metre in 2 weeks. I research and within days, I had the rhizomes, emanating from mother plant, out.

Now for mother plant, an 8 metre strip, planted by previous owner in a moment of incomprehensibilty. Top tool is jet hose which reveals the subsoil crown, rhizome & what else structure. Next tools are hedge lopper & my strongest garden fork. I wash the soil off on lawn.

What really strikes me is that I now know the inspiration for the architect’s design of the Liverpool Metro Cathedral.
