A renewed petition to the Indian Finance Minister for a very worthy cause. Given its extremely modest budgetary cost, no good reasons for it to be ignored (again).

This is shockingly sad news. An immense loss for development economics. It is also personal for many of us who worked with him. Learnt a lot from him. The integrity, dedication and commitment that Martin Ravallion brought to his scholarship and research was unparalleled.

Haven't seen the doco yet, but heard an interview on ABC's Radio National with the director Vinay Shukla. A must-see for anyone who cares for those resisting the hastening demise of independent media in India.

To celebrate Monash University's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Week, I wrote a blog post highlighting some (perhaps surprising!) economics research, presented at Monash CDES Prato conference in June, that aligns with #EDI efforts. cdesblog.com/post/5-things-… #WhatEconomistsReallyDo

We are co-hosting this conference in Kolkata, India, in honour of Martin Ravallion, one of the Monash CDES advisors who left us too early and made a significant contribution on our understanding of poverty and inequality. Impressive line-up of speakers:
