🧵 Developing a new changeup with Gavin Kuzniewski: When evaluating Gavin’s pitch arsenal, it was clear that improving his CH was a low-hanging fruit. He admitted it had been inconsistent throughout the year, and early lab bullpens confirmed that.

5/ Between the improved CH and slider (thread for another day?), Gavin’s arsenal is starting to come together with 5 quality pitches to show. Progress like this doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of showing up, stacking good days, and putting in the work.

🧵 Pitch design sessions are always fun when you’re working with a pitcher who’s curious, open-minded and willing to explore. That’s exactly what we had with Gavin Kuzniewski this summer.

4/ The question was, could we add a true sweeper without compromising what made the curveball effective? After experimenting with a few grip variations and finger pressure, things started to click. He began spinning quality sweepers, getting a distinct shape from the CB.

5/ Now, the next phase is all about sequencing and consistency. It’s making sure each pitch comes from a consistent slot, tunnels well, and can live in and around the zone. Excited to see it all come together!
