To start the 2023-24 year, Viola Desmond Public School has been engaging in a community-building schoolwide Peg People initiative. K-Grade 8 students have been busy painting peg pieces - to be on display in the front foyer - that represent who they are and what makes them unique. 📽️Watch⤵️

Here this afternoon at Viola Desmond Public School school speaking to Grades 5-8 about the jingle dance, which is a healing dance of the Anishinaabe. This is the best medicine I could ask for at the end of what was a challenging week for so many. Students always remind you of your “why”. 🧡

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour survivors, their families, and communities. The history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process and all students, staff and families in the HDSB.

Students took the HDSB's Discriminatory and Harmful Language protocol and "Desmond-fied" it so that it is relatable at every grade level! Today we were looking at how we can intervene when and if we here this sort of language in the juniors grades! Viola Desmond Public School

Happy Diwali!

The #HDSB recognizes the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. Today, we honour and remember those transgender people, whose lives were lost due to anti-transgender discrimination and violence.
