When co-creating our learning environment, students voiced that they wanted to see a welcome sign in our classroom. 2-2 worked so hard to make this beautiful collaborative art piece 🖼️ 🖍️. Everyone is welcome here Viola Desmond Public School #wolfpack🐺 #ThisisUsWhatisOurImpact?

Today Gr 8s and 7s co-created their commitments for Knowledge Building Circles. Lots of ideas on how students can create a safe/brave space where we can all learn from and with one another. Thank you 7-1FI, 7-1, and 7/8-1 for welcoming me into your space! Viola Desmond Public School

Kicking off Viola Desmond Public School grade 7FI STEM with a marble run challenge. Amazing to watch teams independently map out the design, construct the plan of action, and delegate tasks to one another. Looking forward to collaborating with our awesome Grade 7 team! HDSB Science & Technology

To start the 2023-24 year, Viola Desmond Public School has been engaging in a community-building schoolwide Peg People initiative. K-Grade 8 students have been busy painting peg pieces - to be on display in the front foyer - that represent who they are and what makes them unique. 📽️Watch⤵️

Here this afternoon at Viola Desmond Public School school speaking to Grades 5-8 about the jingle dance, which is a healing dance of the Anishinaabe. This is the best medicine I could ask for at the end of what was a challenging week for so many. Students always remind you of your “why”. 🧡

Nov. 8 is National Indigenous Veterans Day. This is a day of remembrance and commemoration of the contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans and those who continue to serve. The #HDSB honours and recognizes these many contributions. HDSB Indigenous Rights and Education

After listening to our whole school read aloud “A Day With No Words,” our class shared about all of the different ways to communicate 👋 🎶✍️ 🖼️ Then we had fun representing some of our favourite places in a multimodal way! Viola Desmond Public School

Day 4: Whole school read aloud Viola Desmond Public School 1-1 Communicating about our favourite place or person using a multimodal approach with loose parts to make writing Amanda Williams

After listening to our whole school read aloud “One Word For Kids,” our class focused on the impact of words. The Grade 2’s and 3’s brainstormed some powerful words that would most definitely impact and change the world 🌍 Viola Desmond Public School

What is the POWER and IMPACT of words? Students chose one word that could change the world, or represent how they wanted to define their year ahead. Connecting our learning to whole school read alouds this week was very impactful in our classroom. Viola Desmond Public School
