The UK government is deeply complicit in Israel's genocidal assault on Gaza, including by licensing arms sales to Israel. I introduced a Bill to Parliament to end these sales. It returns to Parliament tomorrow. The government should accept my Bill and stop arming war crimes.

BREAKING: The Lancet has just published this article "conservatively" estimating that the death toll in the Gaza genocide could be 186,000 people or more. That's 8% of the population, obliterated. These are apocalyptic figures. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

On what is in some ways the hardest day of my year but in other ways the most positive, as we release the latest report from the MBRRACE UK confidential enquiries into maternal deaths and morbidity, it is important we recognise the families and friends of the women who have died

Too many women still face high risks of maternal death or near-miss. In Guatemala, a 15-year-old has a 1 in 6 lifetime chance of MNM, while in Vietnam it's 1 in 269. Nine countries have a 1 in 20 or higher risk, seven in sub-Saharan Africa. Ursula Gazeley

🌍 regions vary ~2x relative %, ⬆️100x absolute numbers dying in two biggest groups - obstetric hemorrhage & hypertensive disorders of pregnancy & childbirth - this really hammers home the continuing huge burden of maternal deaths from *preventable* causes #HealthForAll #SRHR
