I wrote this because I'm worried we're walking blindly into a future where there will be no corporate accountability for the UKs Covid disaster. **We have no reliable data on workplace transmissions** Companies are getting off the hook, whilst individuals face fines & shaming

The Chancellor set himself the task of crafting a Budget that would be capable of building ‘a higher wage, higher skill economy’, that ensures ‘work always pays’. So, was he able to succeed? Ben Harrison and Reiss Tigwell review: lancaster.ac.uk/work-foundatio… #Budget2024

Lauched our paper on zero-hour contracts today with Alice Martin Aslı Atay George Williams! Record 1.1m workers on zero hour contracts. Worryingly with the biggest increase driven by young workers. 🧵(1/6)

Another early start with Office for National Statistics (ONS) labour market stats. Seeing a mixed picture with strong wage growth, but falling employment & rising unemployment and a significant rise in economic inactivity. 🧵 (1/7)

Annual private rent inflation has hit an all time high of 9.2%, outpacing wage rises of 6%. My new report out today, has found their are 1.4 million people who face the ‘double jeopardy’ of working in severely insecure jobs and renting in the private sector.

The combination of severely insecure work & precarious private rented sector accommodation is toxic for people's health & finances, as well as their ability to plan for the future & improve their circumstances Really important work from The Work Foundation bigissue.com/news/employmen…

My comment on rental prices got covered in the The Independent: "Renters in Britain are having to find £103 more a month than they were last year + will hit insecure workers hardest as they earn on average £3,276 less than those in secure jobs" independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

As we work longer, do our leave policies reflect these changes? My research with Aman Navani and Alice Martin, published today, surveys employers & analyses labour force data to reveal a worrying inequality in time off that risks deepening the UK health crisis.🧵(1/9)
