Simplest example: about 1.1 million 18 yr olds in 1990. Around 1.6 L totally took (CBSE/ISC) class 12 exams that yr ... including repeaters. "Elite" systems in those days. About 1.3 m 18 yr olds today. Some 12 L took those exams this yr. Just an indicator of people rising.

What role do private school chains play in education systems? New Center for Global Development blog by Lee Crawfurd & me TL/DR: donors & DFIs should spend less time & money on private school chains & more teaching millions of kids NOT in chain schools cgdev.org/blog/unchained… youtube.com/watch?v=8fgUY-…

Don't think people realize the second and third order impact of private school chains; multigenerational impact at times. "Chain" arrives only after one setup succeeds (survival by fire) - good practices/pedagogy/syllabus spreads. Others begin to mimic. cgdev.org/blog/unchained…

Rs 15,000 per family per year is really a decent amount to genuinely empower parental choice. CMO Andhra Pradesh should promise now to continue this every year and quench the rumours about it being one off grant. Luis Miranda Prof. Geeta Kingdon Niranjan Rajadhyaksha Reuben Abraham Amit Chandra

This being the first “pandemic in the age of social media” (pitasm—pronunced “pie tasm”) it feels different from previous pandemics. Pitasm, being new, is bound to cause more panic but, for the same reason, is likely to be contained better than pandemics before tasm.

Such private school closures deprive kids of their right to education paradoxically in the name of an Act that avows to secure that right! x.com/amitctweets/st…
